A Road Map For Action

Independent Youngstown Mayor-Elect Derrick McDowell, is using the next 60 days to gather the top action item priorities for his first 90 days in office. We want your help to conceive our strategic road map for Derrick’s first 90 days in office. This effort is meant to be a guiding framework for the larger work of properly shaping the future of Youngstown. The goal is to prioritize strategic action around:

 

Economic Development & Small Business, Education, Transportation, A Responsive City Hall, Neighborhood Investment, Transparent & Accountable Government, Public Safety, Population Stability & Growth.

Neighborhood Investment
  • Build up our Block Watches (assisting them to have strong & sustainable leadership, membership, financials, advocacy & community effective resources).
  • Ward Specific Priority Projects (arrived at & executed on together).
  • 31 Neighborhoods, 31 Opportunities combined to make Youngstown’s 1 true identity. Branding & beautification efforts for each.
City-Wide Communication
  • 24 hour response times to acknowledge initial inquiry.
  • 5 minutes with the Mayor (in-person)
  • Youngstown Text (will house Emergency Response, Monthly Event Updates & Education Resource Opportunites)
  •  Quarterly Town Halls
  • Annual Impact Reports, State of the City Address
  • Clear & Communicative City Social Media Channels
City Hall: Quality of Life Services
  • Updated City Website for ease of use, navigation and procedural experience.
  • Improved “See-Click-Fix” streamlined, user-friendly reporting/tracking to report non-emergency issues.
  • “How Do I?” frequently asked questions education.
  • City Department Director Town Halls
Safety Services

Staffing levels of Law Enforcement & Fire (addressing morale, attraction, retention, job satisfaction and quality of life/career goals).

Every Street Light Yo! Program to ensure residents feel safe to walk their own block.

Top Talent (Attract & Retain)
  • Take care of the people, who take care of our people (boost morale using creative incentive-based opportunities).
  • Top-to-bottom review of existing City employees.
  • Reorganize, Restructure, Retain & Attract Top-Talent
